Suffolk VA Labs - VA Rescue Story

Ready For Adoption Consideration

In addition to meeting pre-requisites outlined within Adoption Information, persons interested in adoption of the below Labs must reside within a peaceful suburb within our region (outlined within Adoption Information).

The  Labs are sweet natured, intelligent, loving, healthy and will make a wonderful companion for the right home.  LILRR veterinarians, foster volunteers and trainers have spent many weeks to secure their health and assess behavior, temperament, socialization and training needs.

Each Lab has been crate trained and socialized with varied people and other Labs.  None have shown aggression.  All display shyness to anyone and anything 'new'.  The Lab is current on inoculations, titers and preventatives, in good health, micro chipped and has been  neutered or spayed.

The majority of these Labs were so petrified of humans and new surroundings, their entire body racked with tremors.  When anyone neared, most would dart into corners and huddle on top of one another or drop to their belly shaking in utter submission, or literally freeze mid stance.  None of these Labs had ever lived inside a home, had never heard music, the ring of a phone, a toilet flush, the sound of a vacuum, dish or clothes washer.  All were petrified at the sight of a broom or rake handle.  Most had seen and heard only one other human their entire life!

Any adopter of these Labs must have regular quality time and priority commitment to patiently continue training, build their confidence and continue socialization.

Black males, Clancy (adopted), Georgie and Jimmy are the most excruciatingly shy Va. Labs ... when a human entered the area, these Labs would run into a crate and huddle shivering in back corner, not because they were beat or mishandled by a human, but because they were NOT handled by a human prior to LILRR rescue.  The Labs have always ventured out of crates to frolic with other Labs when people were not around (observed via a baby security camera) and learned habits and gained confidence mimicking actions of normal, more socialized Labs.

After a year of patient, reassuring, positive reinforced love and training, these sweet boys eagerly rush up to play and be petted by their foster family!  Same as the other Va. Labs, they desperately want to be loved and, with growing confidence, are emerging into affectionate sweethearts.

"Jimmy" & "Georgie"

DOB est. January 2002

Confident enough in foster environment to rush, with tails wagging,  into a group hug on the floor and question the sofa where 2 other Labs lay sprawled end-to-end.  But, everything "new" is new to them and will require patient, baby-steps with ongoing reassurance and praise.  All would greatly benefit within a family having a mentor dog to reassure and lead the way!
